Forest Management Plan
The Administration has taken major strides toward restoring economic
and environmental stability in the Pacific Northwest after years of
gridlock and conflict. After convening a Forest Conference last year,
the Administration unveiled a biologically sound and legally
defensible plan on April 14, 1994. The plan pledges $1.2 billion in
economic aid for the Pacific Northwest region over five years. In
addition, it provides a new set of watershed- based,
scientifically-grounded prescriptions for managing the federal timber
lands. Finally, it emphasizes the protection of old growth forests,
restoration of streams and fisheries, and the protection of countless
species of wildlife.
